Turning Points works with middle schools in 16
states and has eight Regional Centers around the country. When working
with Turning Points, middle schools usually commit to a three-year
process of reform. Turning Points provides extensive professional
development including on-site coaching with teachers and administrators,
networking meetings with other Turning Points schools, resource
guides and national conferences.
Becoming a Turning Points School represents a commitment to implement
a research-based reform model that addresses all aspects of a middle
school in order to improve student learning.
The degree of success resulting from school reform is directly linked
to the school's commitment to reform, so the decision to become
a Turning Points middle school should reflect a thoughtful process
that involves the entire school community. Turning Points works
as an equal partner with the school as it implements the design.
The investment of time in developing school-wide consensus to fully
commit to the design generates ownership by the faculty. After participating
in orientations, reading design materials, and discussing expectations
and benefits, at least 80% of faculty must agree to a multi-year
commitment to Turning Points reform.
